I was thinking a bit about the previous post where I wrote about plans vs. just declaring some outlandish resolution, or to be more specific, I’ve been thinking about the outcome portion of the goals.
Steinbeck paraphrased a thought regarding this well,
“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men / Gang aft agley.” (The best laid schemes of mice and men / Go oft awry.)
In other words, no matter how well we make the plans, they often find themselves creating unexpected trips along the way to the outcome. Sometimes its also an unexpected outcome as well.
Whats my secret to not always getting the results I’m after? Simple! I’m not vested in the outcome, as long as I can say I was able to work to a goal all the way to completion. Over the years I’ve come to appreciate the journey to the end which has relieved me of much tension over the years!
